Discover the Land of the Thunder Dragon via Bagdogra, West Bengal

  • Day 01: Arrival at Phuentsholing- via Bagdogra

    Meet & greet on arrival at Phuentsholing (961 ft.) - The Gateway of Bhutan by Road from India. It is a thriving commercial center on the northern edge of the Indian Plains. On arrival check in at the hotel. You shall be received by your guide with “Tashi Khadar”. In the evening, you may choose to relax at the hotel or walk around the Phuentsholing town. Overnight stay at Phuentsholing.

  • Day 02: Phuentsholing – Thimphu (Distance: 150 Kms. / Driving Time: 5 Hrs. / Altitude of Thimphu: 2,350 Mts.)

    After breakfast, complete the immigration formalities and transfer to Thimphu (7,710 ft.) the capital city of Bhutan. On the way, stop at places to view scenery and for Photography. On arrival check in at the hotel. Evening explores the Thimphu town. Overnight stay at Thimphu.

  • Day 03: Thimphu Sightseeing (Altitude of Thimphu: 2350 Mts.)

    After breakfast visit the Kuenselphodrang (Buddha Dordenma). Located at a short drive from Thimphu City Centre, Kuenselphodrang offers a good overview of the Thimphu valley. The largest statue of Buddha in the country sits here which houses over one hundred thousand smaller Buddha statues. Kuenselphodrang National Memorial Chorten Folk Heritage Museum, Typical Bhutanese lunch at the Folk Heritage Restaurant would be a great experience. Sangaygang view point, Takin Reserve Centre. Changangkha Monastery, Simply Bhutan Tashichho Dzong (Fortress of the Glorious Religion) Dinner and Overnight Stay at Thimphu hotel.

  • Day 04: Thimphu - Punakha Sightseeing (Distance: 78 Kms. / Driving Time: 3 Hrs. / Altitude of Punakha: 1,310 Mts.)

    After breakfast drive to Punakha/Wangdue (4298 ft.), on the way Stop at Dochu-La-Pass (10334 ft.) to view the higher Himalayas. The pass is approximately 25 kms away from Thimphu and is the highest point between the Thimphu and Punakha/Wangdue Valley. Another attraction is the 108 Chorten/Stupas (Druk Wangyel Chortens) built close to each other surrounded by numerous colorful prayer flags. Continue your drive to Punakha. Lunch at a local Restaurant. On arrival check in at the hotel. Afternoon, you would visit Punakha Dzong - built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. For many years until the time of the second king, it served as the seat of the Government. The Dzong was named Druk Pungthang Dechen Phodrang (Palace of Great Happiness). After that walk through the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan and enjoy the view, river and the soothing breeze. If time permits you may choose to do Rafting on direct payment basis. Evening free for leisure. Overnight stay at Punakha.

  • Day 05: Punakha - Paro Sightseeing (Distance: 125 Kms. / Driving Time: 5 Hrs. / Altitude of Paro: 2,280 Mts.)

    After breakfast drive to Paro (7,483 ft.) for the final leg of the tour. On the way stop at Tamchog Lhakhang, built by Thangthong Gyalpo in the 15th Century, Thangthong Gyalpo is also known as the iron bridge Builder. The walk on the suspension iron chain bridge, the feel of the soothing breeze and river could be a great experience. Drive further and stop by the river side near Shaba Village. Enjoy the cold water flowing directly from the Himalayas and enjoy a Photo Session. Lunch on the way. On arrival check in at the hotel. Afternoon visit Ta Dzong - National Museum with an excellent collection of arts, relics, religious thangkha, etc. From here get a view of Rinpung Dzong. Later visit a farm House and experience Bhutanese National Dress Wearing over there. In the evening explore the Paro Town for a while. Rest of the evening at leisure. Overnight stay at Paro.

  • Day 06: Excursion to Taktsang Monastery (Distance: 40 Kms. / Driving Time: 1.5 Hrs.)

    After breakfast, drive to the base of Taktsang Monastery. The monastery is a 2 -3 hours hike uphill from here. One feels truly blessed reaching the monastery. The primary Lhakhang was built surrounding Guru Rinpoche’s Meditation cave in 1684 which clings to the edge of a sheer Rock cliff that plunges 900 meters into the valley below. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche flew here on the back of a tigress which gives its name “Taktsang” meaning Tiger’s nest. After lunch, drive to Sangchhokor Monastery`. Visit the Temple. There is also a model of the Buddhist Cosmology in the temple. Besides, the area gives a breathtaking view of the valley below. Explore the Paro Town and Valley for a while. Overnight stay at Paro.
    Note: It is not recommended to hike to Tiger’s Nest (Taktshang Monastery) when you are traveling with small kids. Roads are not like normal hiking. You have to pass through stiff stairs while going up and coming down.
